Research paper topics?

For school, we have to write a 8-10 page research paper about any topic we want. I was going to do the morality of masochism, but my teacher said there isn't enough information out there about that. Then, I thought about justifying the existence of vampires or ghosts. Now, I really want to do something literature related, but I really have no idea what to do. It has to be a "no solution" question to be answered, and there has to be information involved (hence, research). Maybe if Shakespeare's portrayal of the female character was mysogynistic?





But if there is no topics having to do with literature, do you have any ideas for topics relating to the early half of the 1900's? Like 1900-1950? Nothing about wars please...





You know what? Just give me any suggestions for research topics.

i'm surprised that your teacher said you couldn't do a topic.





anyways. if you want to do it about literature, why don't you do a paper arguing that you should have read a certain book in your class that wasn't on your syllabus. of course you'd have to find critical articles about your book to make it research and not just argumentative, but it'd be a relatively easy thesis driven paper to write.

Reply:If your teacher says something like "there isn't enough information on that" it probably means something like "oh don't do that, I'd flunk you, that topic disgusts me." Always try to please your teacher.
Reply:If you're interested in ghosts and Shakespeare, why not try something like





Do the supernatural elements used in (for example) Macbeth help Macbeth in his quest for power, or facilitate his demise?





I dunno how much you know about ancient greek literature, but you could do something about Oedipus Rex... its a sweet short story and there is more information out there on it than you can imagine... it kinda seems like you could get into it... Its got incest and murder and curses and soothesayers...





You could even bring it up to modern time, by citing (I think its...) Freud and his theory about Oedipus and how every man is subconsiously in love with their mother... That could be really cool too!
