What are good research topics for cognitive psychology?

I have to run an experiment and I still haven't figured out what topic should I do. Do you have some good suggestions?

What are good research topics for cognitive psychology?
Wow, that is a huge question and really depends on what specific area you are interested in. I have always found the areas of memory and problem solving very interested. I am guessing that you would not be able to use human subjects or I would suggest something in the area of children and memory development. But otherwise, if you are wanting to run a simple experiment you might chose problem solving. Why not run an experiment that looks at the ability to problem solve while listening to loud music - this could have an application to kids doing their homework while listening to music. Hope this helps, I did the best I could with limited information. Good luck.
Reply:Try using a simple memory test but you have to watch out for ethics in your experiement. Probably have to get people to sign a waiver if its involved. I also like the idea of motivational concepts, maybe including maslows hierarchy of need.
Reply:If you have the availability to research groups or run them. Give a pre and a post test. Use cognitive with one group and any other methods with the other group.

Follow up on the success may show that cognitive is more enablling and empowering to those who receive it.
Reply:What about: Computational Theory.

To describe Computational Theories of the human mind, and discuss the development and role of this theory in explaining how the human mind works. Provide a strict cognitive analysis and consider the role of day-dreaming in human mind activity as a source of creative potential for computer programming.

Or what about: The Relationship of Neuropsychology, Cognitive Psychhology and Artificial Intelligence.

Give the relationship between cognitive neuropsychology, cognitive psychology and Artificial intelligence. By revealing the differing aspects of three elements of psychology, take a look at how they intertwine and create a cohesive bond. The process of linking the forms of artificial intelligence with cognitive structures to help us, not develop the mind, but to advance the possibility of making human life easier as a result.
Reply:I don't know if I would deal with Maslow's heirarchy of needs in a Cognitive Psychology class. That's more of a motivation topic, and besides, the heirarchy is not something that can be looked at empirically. It's more of a pseudo-theory kind of like Freud's psychosexual development theory. Makes sense sometimes, but scientifically useless.

I'm kind of interested in the effects of chronic negative/cynical thoughts on human physiology. I won't elaborate on that but it should provide ample places to start!

What are some interesting research topics relating to math?

Could someone help me come up with an interesting topic to write a small paper I have to write for my math class? I'd like to do something about a current event that realtes to math, but I am just not sure what is going on in the world of math.

This is my assignment: write a 2 page paper about a famous mathematician, or a theory you read about, or an interesting idea you came across in the paper or internet that has to do with math.

What are some interesting research topics relating to math?
The most recent major advance in mathematics was the completion of the proof of Poincare's conjecture by Grigori Perelman. Back in the 90's there was also the proof of Fermat's Last Theorem by Andrew Wiles. Fermat's Last Theorem is easier to understand (although not the proof), and so might make a better topic for your paper.

Other interesting things you might be able to write about are:

-Cryptography, and in particular the discovery of public key encryption systems such as RSA in the 70's.

-Any of the "Millenium Prize Problems," which are a set of 7 math problems (one of which is the Poincare conjecture, which has been solved) with million dollar prizes.

-The Goldbach conjecture which is an open problem. It states that any positive even integer can be written as the sum of two prime numbers.
Reply:You might go to the library and look up these books:

1. The USSR Olympiad Problem Book: Selected Problems and Theorems of Elementary Mathematics (Paperback)

2. Entertaining Mathematical Puzzles (Paperback)

Both are great. Have fun.
Reply:a long time ago....

There was a math competition to solve the problem of a cycloid. Newton solved it in one night, when it took others a lifetime. It is a very interesting story.

Why don't you write about the current mortgage crisis. Why is it that, so many people with an adjustible rate mortgage are having difficulties paying the mortgage and thus are having their house foreclosed?

The math behind the scene's here is a little complicated, but when you read about it - you will understand - it's the math that cause the problem! And only simple math can fix it.

See if you understand. If you do - you will have more than enough material to impress your teacher.
Reply:Fractals.

I don't know exactly what level maths you are in but fractals are a wonderful mathematical topic which can be examined with maths abilities ranging from primary school to university.

They are also a recent (50ish years old) discovery compared to most other maths which is centuries old and there is still plenty of current research being done in this field.

Interesting research topics related to geography?

I'm planning to do extra credit work for my geography teacher. She gave me a topic concerning the connection between geography and history and told me that I can decide if I want to do it or I have other topics in mind. I thought the topic is ok, but I would like to see if there are more interesting topics. Maybe something that ties with U.S or current news...

Interesting research topics related to geography?
Sounds interesting... the first thing that comes to mind is whether and how much the Federal Government should spend re-building the most devastated portions of New Orleans after Katrina.

There's a section of the city that will probably always suffer hurricane damage. Does it make sense to keep pouring money into this area? Does the geographical area offer a reasonable opportunity for steady tax revenues? Can people live there safely or will the government repeatedly be expected to evacuate residents when weather turns foul and they have no means of moving to higher ground...

Hope this is useful!
Reply:Look at how military bases have been established across the country over time and how that relates to America's growth first across the continent and then its power abroad.

I need some new ideas for research topics for my 12th grade English Class.?

We are getting ready to begin the dreaded research paper unit. I am tired of the same old topics. Are there any high school English teachers out there with ideas on how to make this assignment more exciting and interesting for both my students and for me???

I need some new ideas for research topics for my 12th grade English Class.?
I know exactly what you mean....I'm not an English teacher, I'm a Business teacher...but one thing that I did in my Business Law class is changed the type of topic.

Instead of a flat topic, I have them compare/contrast 2 thoughts. For example, instead of doing a paper on juvenile justice, they would write a paper on juveniles being tried as adults vs child. Or they can compare the legal system by looking at the difference between preponderance of the evidence vs beyond a reasonable doubt.

It tends to come out more like a persuasive paper but they still need to do research on it.

Hope this helps!
Reply:I'm not an english teacher either, but a science teacher. We have been brainstorming several ideas at school. One of them is to have them use current events, such as How does the admission of pro athletes using steriods affect the way teen athletes view the use of performance enhancing drugs?

We have also looked at the idea of making in a cross-curricular assignment. Meaning it was used and graded in more than just their english class. Therefore having greater weight.

What research topics can you think of combining insurance, business management and IT?

I'm about to start my MSc thesis soon. I am looking to enter the insurance arena (yup, I've got the actuarial career in mind!), but am stuck doing a Business Management and IT degree. Hv decided to make the switch soon, and plan to use my present thesis as a springboard. However, my University will only allow me to choose a topic that involves both or either of my primary subjects, namely, Business Management and IT. Can you think of any topics that could help me make this leap? Perhaps, something to do with management issues in insurance, or how IT can help solve a practical insurance issue? Any suggestions...?

Many thanks,

Charles DJ.

What research topics can you think of combining insurance, business management and IT?
Insurance rating software development
Reply:In order to rate your auto insurance policy, we collect the kinds of data from you that have direct input into the rating: your gender, marital status, age, territory, use of vehicle, make and model of vehicle, driving record, other drivers in the household, and perhaps a few others I fogot.

We also collect other kinds of data from you that do not have direct input into your auto rating: other insurance, premium collection promptness, occupation, credit history, income, etc.

How can we use this other data in rating, or if not in rating, in underwriting? According to the rating laws of your state (research them - but specifically that rates shall not be excessive, inadequate or UNFAIRLY DISCRIMINATORY (capitalization added by me for emphasis) ), would it be illegal to use any of these other kinds of data? Or to the contrary, are rates that do not use them already illegal because they are already unfairly discriminatory?

What is the role of IT in keeping the organization legal with regard to data collection?

This is all well and good - but take some actuarial exams.

-Golf

-Dogs

Please list some topics that would be interesting for an 8th grade research project.

What are some interesting research paper topics for an 8th grader?
Ask a question to yourself and then try to find the answer and research it
Reply:This is a difficult question to answer although starting with your three areas of interest is helpful. A next step could be to explore a specific context such as:Golf, the history of minority involvement in the game, etc., (you see where this is going)

My only advice as to exploring the specific context of the question is to focus again on your interests or more importantly, focus on an area that has spoken to you in the past, draw on some personal experience that made you curious, interested, happy, joyful, sad.

The reason for my answer is my own experience in trying to develope a topic for a research paper as a Freshman in college 20 years ago. I love world history and events and wasn't sure what to focus on. I then remembered how a friend of mine reacted to the news that Indira Ghandi, (the longtime President of India) was assissinated. When I heard the news I was just thinking, wow that's going to be trouble, but when I met him it was the same experience as when JFK had been assissinated, he was visibly upset. This realization was the key because his reaction spoke to me and I then knew I my topic.

I hope this helps.

What are some possible research paper topics?

I am writing an 8 page research paper and I am trying to think of good topics for it. We are allowed to write about anything we want so choosing one particular thing that interests me is difficult. Any ideas?

What are some possible research paper topics?
Highly controversial topics may be your best bet because there is tons of research for both sides.

For example, abortion, the death penalty, gay marriage, the war in Iraq, euthanasia, along with others are all highly controversial and easy to find information on.

I have to write a research paper [again, for a different class], and I want to research something boring, because I don't really like my teacher. What are some boring research topics?

I already tried the history of grass, but I couldn't find anything.

Or maybe I could research something very liberal, considering my teacher is a huge republican.

Are all grains of sand unique?

You could get a quantity of sand, photograph each grain, and print on separate pages a picture along with description (size, shape, colour) of each one and compare and contrast with all of the others.

You may be able to plot numerous graphs, piecharts etc to embellish the whole piece.

Could turn into a lifetime's work.

What are some research topics that use absolute zero measurements?

I must write a paper on a research topic that uses absolute zero measurements but I can't come up with anything. I am drawing a blank. If someone could just help me think of ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. Here is the criteria for my paper:

Identify a research issue, problem, or opportunity that uses data that has absolute zero measurements, such as interval and ratio level data. Some examples might include the difference between benefits packages offered by an organization, the feasibility of outsourcing a department such as customer service, the feasibility of hiring more employees when production increases instead of offering overtime pay to existing employees, or the costs associated with moving a home-based business into an office setting. Be sure to obtain instructor approval for your research issue, problem, or opportunity before completing your Hypothesis Testing Paper.

Are the views of the "dressed down" women different from women and men?

What are some research topics that could come from emma by jane austen?

I am thinking of doing sociology of the 1810's.

However, we need two research topics. I have no clue what to do for the other one. Any help?

It has to be related to the book in some way. Maybe I could do research on painting of the time like Emma enjoyed doing. I just don't know.

What are some research topics that could come from emma by jane austen?
You could expand that subject from the painting women did at that time to the different types of education women received during this period. For instance, Harriet went to Mrs. Goddard's school but Emma had a governess. I think you could find a lot of information about this in the library and even online.

Although I think it would be a rather lengthy study, you could compare the various classes of people in England during this era. Just about every class is represented in Emma.

There are a lot of different things you could research for that time period that would relate to Emma: what happened to poor women of the middle to upper classes who were not married, what were the manners of the times (what was acceptable and what wasn't), what were the fashions of the time, what role did an apothecary play in small villages in Regency England, and even what were balls or entertainments like.

I hope this helps.
Reply:Miss Austen gave her original readers a strong hint that there was something between Jane and Frank (Mr. Perry's carriage), but modern readers often don't catch it, especially if they haven't also read Sense and Sensibility--think of the conclusion Elinor comes to when she sees Marianne writing to Willoughby. Apparently a gentleman and a lady in her society did not correspond unless they were related or engaged. Can you get a research topic out of that fact? You might have to enlarge it a bit to cover just whom , especially of the opposite sex, it WAS considered proper to write to.

Another idea along the same lines is the social life of pregnant women in Jane Austen's novels. In the Victorian period, a few decades later, women who didn't absolutely HAVE to didn't go out in public once they began to show, but check how little time passes in Emma between the strawberry picnic and the birth of the Westons' daughter, yet Mrs. Weston is at the picnic. Similarly, from the first time we meet Charlotte Palmer in S%26amp;S, we're told that she is pregnant, although I don't remember at this point how far into her pregnancy she continues to go out socially. Another fruitful area for research?

One more: who in Jane Austen calls whom by his or her first name? What was the common practice then, and where was the line drawn? Did a husband automatically acquire the right to call by their first names all those whom his wife did? (Think of Mr. Weston and Emma, and Mr. Darcy and Kitty Bennet.)

What are some good research topics in Physiology for undergraduates?

Any ideas for research topics relating to physiology would be great. Keep in mind, that I have a relatively limited knowledge of molecular biology and organic chemistry. Thanks!

What are some good research topics in Physiology for undergraduates?
I would find a particular professor you want to work with and they will be able to help you find a project that fits in with their research goals as well as broadens your knowledge of physiology and research in general. Talk to your professors, especially your physiology professor to find out what kind of research is being done in your department. Once you find a person you would like to work with find out more about their research and either form your own plan of something you would like to investigate or start out just doing experiments that they suggest. Either way is a great start in undergrad. Usually you start out doing their experiments and then you become interested in something and start planning your own stuff.

What are great and promising research topics I can use for a huge assignment. Any suggestions?

I have to pick a really good research topic. The topic could be social, societal, cultural, economic, political, environmental, medical, etc. I have to have a "argumentative thesis statement" and then have it have the potential to take it apart, see the problems in the topic and then talk about possible solutions. It will be a 7 page paper so the topic is what will make or break it. Any suggestions on some topics with lots of information that may be useful? I have to be able to gather 10 various reliable sources.

What are great and promising research topics I can use for a huge assignment. Any suggestions?
I think your best bet would be to go with something that's been in the news a lot lately, because you'll be able to find lots of recent information and many sources on it; plus, it will be interesting and timely. An example might be, global warming. Everyone's talking about it lately (including the presidential candidates). There's a documentary coming up on the National Geographic channel. There are lots of articles online and in journals.

Another interesting idea would be, so-called "illegal immigration." Like, should we or should we not allow illegal immigrants from Mexico to work here, obtain driver's licenses, vote, etc. There are lots of articles on that.

Another idea might be, universal healthcare. Would it be good or bad for us as a nation to have universal healthcare. Would the quality of our healthcare decrease. Would the expense of providing healthcare for every person drive us into a recession. There would be LOTS of information on that in many sources.

Another topic might be, immunizations. Your thesis could be, "An increase in mandatory immunizations is a good (or bad) thing." There's lots of discussion recently about whether the immunization shots themselves can cause problems like autism. Also, is it reasonable for all young girls to be immunized for cervical cancer, or is it just another way for pharmaceutical companies to make money.

These are all topics that are very timely and you would have no problem at all finding multiple sources on them. Good luck with your paper!
Reply:My suggestion is to pick something you are very passionate about. If it were me, I would write about abortion or gay marriages or the death penalty. Those have a tremendous amount of information and I have done plenty of research papers on them, so I would know. You have to have an interest in the topic or else you won't care about it. Think about an issue or law that you feel strongly towards - either for it or against it. Good luck!
