What are good research topics dealing with the military?

I'm doing a research paper for college english, and have been stumped on a good research topic I can debate with. I currentley have a major interest in the war, more specifically u.s. soldiers.

What are good research topics dealing with the military?
The military as a way out of poverty.

The effectiveness of the G.I. Bill.

Recruiting methods.

Demographic makeup of the military over time.

The effectiveness of embedding reporters in units.

The change in war tactics in the last 50 or 100 years.

Women in combat.

Open homosexuality in military units.

The effectiveness of the V.A. in dealing with disabled military members.

The pros and cons of each service.

Mission overlap in the different services and it's cost.( All the services have their own planes, so why do we have an airforce? Why do we have the marines, which is part of the Navy, when we have the Army, etc)

The effect of war on the troops.

The effect of war on reservists and national guardsmen

Did objectors and deserters understand they might have to actually fight and are they cowards?
Reply:Women in Combat

Don't ask Don't tell (gays in the military)

Time Tables on pullouts

Torture as an intergation technique
Reply:How about something related to...

People pretending to be a veteran and how do real vets feel about it considering the sacrifices they're making overseas? YA people like leatherneck is a good example of a fake... look him up!
Reply:Research why african american recruiting numbers dropped as soon as the war began.
Reply:You want a political subject or a real military subject?

If you want a real military subject research the pro's and con's of manuver warfare vs. firepower warfare.
