hey everyone,
im having a little trouble with coming up with at least 3 topics to e-mail my professor with, so she can approve my research paper.
i have one big, passionate topic i've wanted to write about for a couple of months now, and that's being about the bilderberg group. i'm so very interested in that and have been since i've first heard about them. the thing is, i dont know if that would be so much sociological as it is political?
but even though im very interested in researching that, i still need at least two more ideas.
what are some original SOCIOLOGY research topics? it doesnt matter if its something somebody else would come up with, but i just dont want it to be something EVERYBODY would come up with. get what im saying?
Good sociology research paper topics?
Environmental justice / racism
The working poor and minimum wage
Health care problems and insurance
Reply:Here's one I've always wanted to have the time to research and do. I think it would make a great book. Have you ever thought about how during our lifetime smoking has become a deviant behavior? Well, it has. Think about it. Back in the early 19th. and 20th. centuries smoking was cool. Then, they started examining it closer and eventually they turned it from a cool thing to a questionable social behavior to a medically dangerous behavior. If you examine social phenomena you will discover that when a behavior begins to be questioned by society they always blame the victim first and then either society itself or a disease process. Example: hyperactivity: acting out child/ bad parenting/ disease process within the brains of certain children based upon birth defects etc. It is extremely interesting because once they create the condition they must have doctors to treat it (money), scientists to research it (money/jobs), teachers to teach the special students (more money and jobs), so the conditions becomes important to the maintenance of the society itself.
Have fun!!
Reply:You could do a study on the 3 studies on the effect of mandatory auto insurance and the low incomes.
I have done two of these and they can be found at www.foodstampstudy.com In Billings, Mt 12 of 96 food stamp applicants said auto insurance was a reason for needing food stamps.
Dr Robert Maril (dept head of the Eastern Carolina University Sociology Dept) did a study which showed that 44% of the respondents said they could not buy food or pay rent due to mandatory auto insurance. This can be had by typing the following into the yahoo search engine: "The Impact of Mandatory Auto Insurance Upon Low Income Americans"
Do a paper combining the three studies. My other study was a listing of food stamp skyrockets linked to mandatory auto insurance laws.
Reply:Well, how about you do it on: sterotyping, gender roles, racism, and sex and violence on tv
Reply:Looking at the effects of consumerism on society.
I find this topic very interesting (done seminar / essay) and there are very good arguments to consider, which makes writing and researching interesting, quite easy and worth while.
