What are some good controversial topics that I could prove for a History Research Paper?

I need to write a history research paper about U.S. history and I can't find a good topic. The teacher said that it would be best to be controversial, he wants to learn something, it should be narrow, and I need to prove something.

Sorry for all the specifics, but I would REALLY appreciate your thoughts!!! Thanks!

Hmmm mm - - - define proof!! That in itself is controversial. Here is my favorite and always good for a rousing thumbs down - - - did Geo W Bush take advantage of voting irregularities to 'steal' the 2000 American Election? You can contrast the 2000 election with the 1876 election which most historians begrudingly admit was won by Democrat Samuel Tilden yet the Presidency was bestowed upon Republican Rutherford B Hayes. In both instances well meaning friends of the candidates noted voting irregularities in Florida and mustered the forces of their party to make their candiatate the Winner. In the case of Hayes he went along with the 'scheme' with a show of reluctance, assured that it was in the best interest of America to keep a Republican in The White House. One suspects that Geo W was much less reluctant to seize power - - - !!!
